Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Services
A pessary is a medical device that fits in the vagina to correct an ongoing issue. In general, women take care of their own pessaries and can remove them and place them. There are three trypes of pelvic pessaries:
1. Pessaries to correct pelvic organ prolapse
2. Pessaries to correct stress urinary incontinence
3. Pessaries to correct fecal incontinence
Each type is shaped differently, and there are more than 15 different shapes and sizes. During your pessary fitting appointment, the clinician will decide which type and size well appropriately meets your needs. You will have a chance to wear the passary in the clinic room which provides you the ability to express any concerns related to how the pessary feels and ensure a pessary device is right for you before you make the purchase.
Pelvic Floor / Pessary / Prolapse & Overactive Bladder
Initial Counselling Appointment With Physical Examination
A full health history is collected, physical examination and additional screening may be ordered such as ultrasounds to rule out other causes for your symptoms ensuring the best possible care provided.
Pelvic examination will determine what type of prolapse you are experiencing with education provided. You may be asked to complete a bladder diary at home for review at your next appointment.
Pessary Fitting & Education
This Appointment Will Be After The Initial Pessary Appointment
During your appointment, the goal is to find the pessary device that is the most comfortable for you. Education on how to insert and remove your pessary is provided with demonstration and guidance in a safe and comfortable environment.
